1. WHAT MUST BE PROVIDED FOR DISABLED PERSONS IN RAILWAY TRANSPORT
RIGHT TO TRANSPORT LIKE OTHER CITIZENS
Disabled persons and persons with reduced mobility must have non-discriminatory opportunities to travel by rail, compared to all other citizens. They must not be charged extra when buying a train ticket. They shall also not be charged extra for booking tickets. A carrier, ticket vendor or tour operator may not refuse to book or issue a ticket to a disabled person or person with reduced mobility.
ACCESSIBILITY
Carriers must ensure that disabled persons and persons with reduced mobility have access to stations, platforms, rolling stock and other facilities.
2. WHO THEY CAN TURN TO FOR HELP
HELP
Disabled persons and persons with reduced mobility have the right to request free assistance on departure, arrival or transfer at the railway station from the carrier, station manager, ticket vendor or tour operator at least 48 hours before the planned train journey. The assistance shall be provided on condition that the disabled person and the person with reduced mobility report at a designated place at a time to be fixed by the carrier. This time shall not be more than 60 minutes before the published departure time or before the time at which all passengers are asked to check in.
COMPENSATION FOR EQUIPMENT
In the event that a disabled person or a person with reduced mobility loses part or all of the equipment used for mobility or is damaged while travelling by train, the carrier shall be liable for such damage or loss without financial limit.
