The Agency for Communication Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia informs the public that the European Commission has launched a public consultation on the Digital Package (digital omnibus). The initiative aims to simplify and modernise existing legislation on digital services and reduce administrative burdens for businesses, public administrations and citizens.
The initiative provides for simplification measures in several areas, including:
- Data legislation (e.g. Regulation on the framework for the free movement of non-personal data, Open Data Directive),
- rules on cookies and other tracking technologies under the ePrivacy Directive,
- simplifying the reporting of cyber incidents,
- harmonised application of the provisions of the AI Act,
- and adjustments to the European Digital Identity and Trusted Services framework, including in relation to the introduction of the EU Business Wallet.
The objectives of the European Commission's initiative are to reduce compliance costs, eliminate fragmentation of rules, increase legal clarity and apply existing legislation more effectively, without prejudice to existing safeguards on citizens' rights.
Information on the consultation is available here. The deadline for submissions is 14 October 2025.
