On the occasion of the International Day of the Common European Number 112

The Agency for Communications Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia publishes some information about the European 112 number, which is celebrated in Europe on 11 February each year.The day is dedicated to raising awareness of the European emergency number 112, which can be called at any time free of charge in all EU countries and allows you to contact the emergency services directly - police, ambulance or fire brigade.

In Slovenia, according to the Agency's 2025 survey, 96% of respondents know that calls to 112 and 113 are free. And 85% of respondents know that 112 is the single European emergency number for all EU countries.

Only one sixth of respondents (17%) are aware of 116 as the single European number for services of social value. To mark European 112 Day, we would therefore like to draw your attention once again to the following less well-known, but equally free, European emergency telephone numbers:

  • 116 000 - the hotline for missing children;
  • 116 111 - the helpline for children in distress;
  • 116 123 - Mental distress helpline.

The International Day of the Common European Emergency Number 112 also recognises the work of all those who contribute to the European emergency services chain. In 2025, more than 500,000 calls were made to 112 in Slovenia, with an average response time of just 3.7 seconds.
