The Agency for Communications Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia hereby informs the public that the Chairman of the BEREC Body and the Director of the Agency, Mr. Marko Mišmaš, the Chairman of the BEREC Authority and the President of the Authority, participated in the International Digital Summit LATAM 2026, which took place in Madrid on 26 and 27 February 2026. He participated in discussions on the regulatory challenges of digital development up to 2030 with the future BEREC 2027 Chair-elect Alejandra de Iturriaga Gandini (CNMC, Spain).
At the forefront of these was the need for a coordinated and comprehensive approach to regulation in an era of technological convergence. "Technology is converging. Regulation must not diverge", stressed Mr. Marko Mišmaš pointed out that the regulatory framework must work in a coherent way, not in isolated sectors.
The BEREC Chair pointed out that over-regulation can stifle innovation and weaken incentives for long-term investment, while under-regulation can undermine effective competition. He also stressed that investors are often more concerned about regulatory unpredictability and overlapping obligations than strict rules. Therefore, he said, it is crucial to ensure a stable, predictable and coherent regulatory environment.
Expressing his views on future regulation, the Agency's Director stressed, among other things, that artificial intelligence, connectivity, cloud computing and data ecosystems are closely intertwined, and regulation in these areas must be coordinated with each other. This is the only way to avoid fragmented rules that could slow down innovation and the development of the digital market.
More information about the event is available on the conference website. The LATAM Digital Summit is an international summit on digital transformation that brings together regulators, policy makers, industry representatives and experts from Europe, Latin America and the wider region (LATAM - Latin America) to discuss the major challenges and opportunities of digital development.
