Agency invites evidence on potential risks to young people on the online gaming platform Roblox

The Agency for Communication Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia in its capacity as Digital Services Coordinator, informs the public that the Dutch Digital Services Coordinator, the Agency for Consumers and Markets (ACM), has launched an investigation against the online gaming platform Roblox for possible risks faced by minors on the platform. Under the Digital Services Act (DSA), platforms must put in place appropriate and proportionate measures to ensure a high level of privacy, security and protection for minors.

In its investigation, the ACM intends to assess whether the Roblox platform has sufficient measures in place to protect minors on its services. Roblox has tens of millions of daily users worldwide. The platform regularly appears in the media also due to suspicions that minors are exposed to violent or explicit content in games and are subjected to misleading techniques to encourage them to make purchases. In recent months, the ACM has requested various information from the platform as part of its preliminary investigation and has assessed that there are sufficient grounds to open a formal investigation against Roblox for suspected breaches of the DSA.

The Agency invites interested stakeholders to inform the Agency of any evidence or information they may have about questionable practices on the Roblox platform. The Agency invites all users who believe that they have encountered content on the Roblox platform that is objectionable to minors to submit a report of a possible violation. They can do so via the online form or by email: info.box@akos-rs.si. The report should include a justification for the alleged infringement, information on the location of the content (URL address), the email address of the reporting party, any screenshots and any other relevant information.

The Agency will examine the reports and, if appropriate, forward them to the Dutch ACM Coordinator. If you have any further questions, please contact: dsa@akos-rs.si.
