The Agency is raising awareness of online scams through the MiPi portal and the Slovenian media during Cyber Security Month
Anti-phishing campaign during Cyber Security Month

Through the MiPi media and information literacy portal, the Agency is joining the awareness-raising campaign organised by the National Cyber Security Response Centre (SI-CERT), a partner of the MiPi portal, during October, Cyber Security Month. The Slovenian media are also helping to disseminate awareness-raising content.

The ‘Catch Phishing!’ campaign, run by SI-CERT as part of the ‘Safe on the Internet’ programme, encourages users to recognise and report online scams designed to steal data. This is one of the most common online scams in Slovenia. In 2025, SI-CERT recorded a 35 per cent increase in cyber incidents, with phishing attacks continuing to rise and accounting for a third of all incidents handled.

Phishing is a scam in which attackers use deceptive messages to direct users to fake websites in order to obtain their passwords, personal or financial details. These messages often give the impression that they come from banks, online shops, delivery services or other trustworthy organisations.

On 1 October 2026, SI-CERT set up a dedicated phishing reporting portal at phishing@cert.si. Users can submit suspicious emails and links received via email, text messages or apps such as Viber and WhatsApp.

Every report helps SI-CERT to identify dangerous websites more quickly and protect other users. It adds verified phishing URLs to lists of dangerous websites and works to have fake sites taken down by hosting providers. It also compiles lists of domains and web addresses that operators and DNS server administrators can use to protect their users.

TheSlovenianmedia will support the campaign by broadcasting television and radio adverts free of charge and by displaying online banners on their websites.

The Agency urges users to pause before responding to an unexpected message and to verify its authenticity through an independent source. They should use a long and unique password for each account, enable multi-factor authentication, and regularly update their devices and software. Requests for urgent transfers or changes to bank account details should be verified by calling a known telephone number.

Throughout October,MiPi will be publishing content on its website and social media channels about recognising online scams and practical tips for staying safe. The agency encourages users to follow these updates and share them with their loved ones.
