At the 60th Plenary Meeting of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), the Agency for Communications Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia was elected as the Chair of the Body for 2026.
The Agency has thus taken an active role in the preparation of BEREC's future strategy and, in particular, its Work Programme for 2026.
This is the first time in its 25 years of operation that the Agency has held the chairmanship of any international association of regulators. In doing so, the Agency is taking on a key role in coordinating the implementation of BEREC's tasks and representing BEREC in its relations with stakeholders and partners at a time of major challenges in the electronic communications and digital markets. In addition to stronger stakeholder involvement, the Agency also aims to transfer information, experience and good practices from the international to the domestic environment.
"Thanks to our extensive experience, our continuous growth and our desire to acquire new skills, I know that BEREC is more prepared than ever to meet the challenges of the changes in the sector, especially in digital markets. I am aware of my responsibilities, but I am also delighted to be taking the lead at such an important time, when we will need to forge a new path," said the Agency's Director, Mr. Mag. Marko Mišmaš.
Before becoming President, a person serves for one year as Vice-President, which is called the "Incoming Chiar". Even after the end of his/her term of office, the Chairperson continues to be active as Vice-Chairperson or "Outgoing Chair" for a further year. The Agency will thus continue to be actively involved in the work of this important advisory body to the European Commission in 2027.
