The Agency for Communications Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia is launching a public call for the selection of content areas for the AI Regulatory Sandbox, which is open to the interested public to suggest areas that could be used in the Regulatory Sandbox.
The AI Regulatory Sandbox is a controlled testing environment where providers and potential providers of AI systems will be able to develop, learn, test and verify innovative AI systems and their compliance with legislation, in cooperation with the competent authorities. The sandbox aims to promote the safe, responsible and innovative use of AI and to enable a better understanding of the regulatory and technical challenges in the development of these systems.
Participation is open to companies including SMEs, mid-sized, large and start-up companies, research organisations, universities, public sector bodies, providers and users of AI systems, individuals and other interested parties. Applicants may select and prioritise up to three selected areas from Annex I, Section A and Annex III of the AI Act respectively.
Interested parties may submit their proposal no later than 30 September 2026.
Natural persons shall use form 1a and other entities shall use form 1b. The completed form can be sent by e-mail to ai@akos-rs.si or by post to the Agency. When submitting, reference should be made to case number 38292-2/2026.
The Agency will review and assess the proposals received in terms of the number of similar proposals, the AI technologies used, the expected societal impact and consistency with the public interest, and the level of risk of the use of AI. Expressions of interest in this call do not imply a guaranteed participation in the AI regulatory sandbox, but are intended to provide an expert basis for the selection of a subject area.

The call is the first phase of the establishment of an AI Regulatory Sandbox in Slovenia. In this phase, the Agency wishes to gather proposals, initiatives and expressions of interest for the selection of the content area to be prioritised in the sandbox. Once the topic area has been selected, a separate public call will be launched for AI system providers to apply for inclusion and participation in the sandbox.
