The Agency for Communication Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia hereby informs the public that it has granted the first trusted flagger status to an organisation established in the Republic of Slovenia. This is a competence brought about by the assumption of the tasks of the National coordinator for digital services. Zavod PIP- Legal and Information Centre Maribor has been awarded the status of trusted flagger for its work in the areas of online violence, illegal or harmful speech and the protection of minors.
Zavod PIP is a non-profit private institution founded by the University of Maribor Student Organisation and has been working for many years in the field of legal counselling and legal aid. It also runs a number of other projects and programmes, often targeting young people, for example in 2024 it completed the "Bodimo prijazni" project, which addressed the issue of hate speech.
Organisations specialising in detecting and dealing with illegal content on online platforms, which also draw attention to such content, may be eligible for trusted flaggers status. According to Article 22 of the Digital Services Act, such status may be granted to an entity that demonstrates that it has the appropriate knowledge and competence in its field of expertise, is independent from the providers of online platforms, and carries out its activities in a diligent, accurate and objective manner.
A trusted flaggers can deal with cases of illegal content on any online platform in the EU, which means that Slovenian trusted flaggers will also be able to apply to major platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Temu and others, which also have a large number of Slovenian users. The Agency will work to ensure that trusted flaggers will also allow Slovenian users to contact them directly.
More information on how to become a trusted flagger and its tasks is available on the Agency's website. The list of Trusted Notifiers from across the EU is also published by the European Commission and updated regularly.
