The Agency for Communication Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia informs the interested public that the European Commission has launched a consultation on the revision of the Recommendation on relevant markets in the electronic communications sector (2020/2245/EU). The purpose of the initiative is to examine whether the list of regulated wholesale markets is still justified or whether it needs to be adapted to new technological and market conditions, such as the deployment of 5G networks, the convergence of services and the accelerated roll-out of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks.
In line with the European Electronic Communications Code, the Recommendation should be kept under regular review by the European Commission and, where possible, sectoral ex-ante regulation should be phased out in favour of general competition rules. In this consultation, the European Commission is seeking the views of BEREC, national regulatory authorities, operators and other stakeholders to assess possible changes to the list of markets. The deadline for contributions is 17 September 2025 and the questionnaire is available on the "Better Regulation - Have your say" portal.
The European Commission points out that the revision of the Recommendation is taking place in parallel with the preparation of the legislative proposal for the Digital Networks Act, but in a separate process. It therefore published a specific call for views on DNA on the portal on 6 June 2025, which was already reported in the Agency' s newsletter of 17 June 2025.
The interested public is thus invited to participate in both consultations and thus contribute to shaping future regulatory actions that will contribute to more competitive and sustainable electronic communications in the EU.
